Grains are naturally nutritious and are easily digested if it is well-prepared. Their different degrees of alimentary value result from the variations in the elements and their relative amounts that make them up in composition, grains are more or less similar. They contain nitrogenous elements such as albumen, caseine, fibrin, and gluten together with dextrine, fatty matter, cellulose, starch, sugar, mineral elements and woody matter. These components give grain foods the nutritive value of nearly three times that of beef, mutton, or poultry. Grains also meet the proper standard for the proportion of food elements required to meet the needs of the body systems when compared with most foods.
Grains are considered to be nearly perfect foods. It has a palatable taste that makes it more generally used. But most people do not consume the right amount of grain in their diets. Hardly one family in fifty consumes any grains whether as flour or an oatmeal or rice. There should be a variety of grains in our diet, and the market even provides endless options of grain preparations enough to make this a staple food of our diet. Pair this with the fact that they are proven to benefit both your skin health and hair strength and you got yourself a superfood.
Grains are proven to work
In the past, grains were considered as staple food. The Spartans, with their strength and endurance, were fed on a grain diet. The Roman soldiers, who conquered the world with Caesar, had daily rations that consisted of parched grain. This shows that history proves that the highest condition of man has always been associated with nations that consume wheat.
Some countries around the world make use of grains generously in their diet. For example, rice is considered as the staple food for a large proportion of the world’s population. It needs to be eaten with foods that contain nitrogenous elements that rice does not possess. This may be the reason why the Chinese eat rice with peas and beans.
There are often a lot of people who say that they cannot use grains. This is often associated with how the grain was cooked or prepared, consumed, and accompanied. You should know that it all depends on how you prepare it. In most cases, the difficulty is associated with the amount of sugar used with the grain.
Opt for sugar-free grains
To increase a grain’s alimentary value, sugar is something that you do not really need. The addition of cane sugar will only give trouble to our stomach. This is mainly due to the starch being converted into sugar through the digestive process of assimilation. There are people who do not use sugar with grain. These are the Asiatice, and they subsist largely upon rice. People should realize the fact that grains will become a staple food if they were served with a little bit less sugar. More sugar will only cloy the appetite. Dressings may be allowed on occasion so that it will not become too monotonous.
You should remember that grains will only become beneficial to our health when they are eaten properly. Grains usually do not require mastication to break them up because they are soft. But since grains are composed of starch, it needs to be mixed with saliva for it to be digested in the stomach. It is not advisable to eat grains with hard food, but if you really want to, you can try by using whole-wheat wafers that are toasted nicely so that they become crisp and tender. Break two wafers into small pieces before you pour on the cream. Through this, a part of the hard food may be taken away with each grain. This is advisable when feeding children with grains, since they are liable to swallow their food without chewing properly.
